Please review shared Google doc before the meeting so we can finalize and send it. \nReview material Eymund Diegel sent us\, particularly the information about contaminants left in the ground when the Whole Foods lot was “remediated.”  I suspect we will all have questions about that and what\, if anything\, can be done or should be done about it now. I cannot tell from the list what “safe” levels are for the toxins listed\, though I know the lead levels are definitely high. I think we should be asking EPA/DEC if there was anything done to stabilize the land.  Was in situ stabilization used? Do we know? Do they? \nI also want to follow up with the contractor doing the groundwater survey for DEP in Brooklyn.  Jo Anne Simon is also following up with them to ask that they check levels in Gowanus. \nOn that note\, a team of students from Pratt conducted a flood-risk survey and have a presentation we could watch. However\, their classes run till 8 p.m. I want to suggest that we hold next month’s meeting a bit later at 7:30 to allow them to join us. \nAll Gowanus CAG meetings are open to the public\, unless specifically noted otherwise.

SUMMARY:Community Event: What's in the Air? Ask an EPA Expert
DESCRIPTION:Get a behind-the-scenes peek inside the “science lab on a bus” that’s helping keep an eye on what’s in the air in Gowanus! EPA scientists\, educators\, and other community members will be on hand to answer questions about the ongoing cleanup of the Gowanus Canal\, how the EPA is helping monitor the neighborhood for air quality issues during construction\, and what you can do to stay safe and informed.\n\n \n\nDEP is undertaking the next round of the CSO tank excavation with more intensive air monitoring from the TAGA bus. This is an opportunity for the community to actually get on the bus\, talk to scientists\, ask questions and learn about how the agencies are monitoring remediation to protect human health.\n\n\n\nThe bus will be located at BUTLER & NEVINS ST\, and CAG members will be set up inside Evalyn’s Tap House (236 Butler) from 6-8pm to share more information about how this monitoring relates to the many other neighborhood processes.
