Gowanus Canal CAG Archaeology & Historic Preservation Committee Meeting

The Gowanus Canal Community Advisory Group’s Archaeology and Historic Preservation Committee will hold its September meeting on Monday, August 31st, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., via Zoom video conference. Please note we’ll be meeting one week early than normal, since the first Monday of September is also Labor Day.

Agenda
1. Follow up with Celeste and Jason re: how to publish StoryMap on the CAG Website. Aaron said GRT approved this.
2. There are other materials including images of the dredged items that could also be shared. We already know these materials can be shared as we shared them at the show in April 2025. How do we want to share these? Website, posters? Work with outreach.
3. Joan reported that the Clinton and Union Street library is scheduled to reopen in the fall. What would an email to the library say? Library should be very interested in the StoryMap. Follow up with GRT – Aaron will let us know if the StoryMap can be shared with BPL.
4. Can the StoryMap also be in book form?
5. Follow up with Aaron as to whether GRT still has the original draft StoryMap that was much more geared to kids. It would be nice to have both.
6. Joan shared her PowerPoint of the graffiti materials. Eventually we want a show at the Gowanus Dredgers Boathouse with real items dredged and the graffiti materials, but it would be great if we could show the StoryMap, too. Aaron will follow up. If we cannot move all of John Quadrozzi’s items to the location, we could use the photos we have of them already. Just need frames.
7. How can this committee raise money or can it come from GRT? See Brian Carr’s email.
8. Follow up with Michael – did he reach out to John Quadrozzi?
9. Jason suggested posters with QR codes and flyers – can the Trust help? Aaron to check. If we get the flyers it would be nice to frame them and have them hung in new spaces.
