{"id":6398,"date":"2021-02-03T16:00:50","date_gmt":"2021-02-03T21:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gowanuscag.org\/?p=6398"},"modified":"2021-02-03T16:00:51","modified_gmt":"2021-02-03T21:00:51","slug":"gowanus-canal-community-advisory-group-resolution-supporting-epas-position-on-nycs-request-to-extend-deadlines-for-construction-of-cso-tanks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gowanuscag.org\/index.php\/2021\/02\/03\/gowanus-canal-community-advisory-group-resolution-supporting-epas-position-on-nycs-request-to-extend-deadlines-for-construction-of-cso-tanks\/","title":{"rendered":"Gowanus Canal Community Advisory Group Resolution Supporting EPA&#8217;s Position on NYC&#8217;s Request to Extend Deadlines for Construction of CSO Tanks"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" class=\"lead\">At its January 26, 2021 general meeting, the Gowanus Canal Community Advisory Group passed the following resolution supporting EPA&#8217;s response to the New York City Department of Environmental Protection&#8217;s letter requesting extended deadlines for construction of CSO retention tanks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The resolution reads as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Resolved:<\/strong><br>The Gowanus Canal Community Advisory Group (CAG) strongly supports the position EPA states in its November 6th letter to the NYC DEP regarding DEP\u2019s request for a 12-month extension to complete the future construction of the RH-034 CSO Tank and an 18-month extension to complete the future construction of the OH-007 CSO tank. The DEP&#8217;s proposed delays are of great concern to the community because of the \u201cimpacts to the Canal cleanup that may occur if contaminated CSO solids discharges continue as a result of further delays to DEP\u2019s completion of the CSO solids controls component of EPA\u2019s September 2013 Record of Decision (ROD) for the site.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Background:<\/strong><br>The EPA clarifies for DEP that \u201cbased on the above, it is EPA\u2019s conclusion that the requested extensions are not justified.
